Choose the Delivery Mode for your e-Learning Course

There are so many ways to deliver instruction online that the topic warrants its own lesson. In fact, deciding how you are going to deliver a course is critical to the way that you design and develop the course!

Your first decision is whether or not you will deliver the course "live" or in a synchronous mode. If you deliver it live, it means that you and the students need to be online at the same time. There are numerous courses delivered this way. One of the oldest models for this is a telephone course.

You can also deliver a teleseminar, which is a fancy way of saying a course via telephone. In a teleseminar, everyone calls into a central number where there is a "telephone bridge". The bridge can handle many simultaneous connections, so everyone can hear one another. And because everyone pays their own long distance bill to the bridge, it's an affordable technology to use. Bridge pricing varies, but if you're paying over $20 per hour to rent the bridge, then contact us and we'll put you in touch with a more reasonably priced vendor!

A variation on the telephone seminar is a video conferencing course. You can use a dedicated video conferencing system or some of the newer internet-based web cameras. But recognize that unless everyone is on a fast line (cable or DSL), the video quality will be disappointing. In fact, unless there is a reason that you need to see one another, I always recommend audio conferencing instead. A good example of the use of audio conferencing is at wizetrade.com where they offer a weekly tutorial using internet audio conferencing. (Click on support to see the weekly schedule. You can tune in free to see how it works.)

Other vendors provide a blended model of live telephone with live web. Three of the largest vendors in this space are webex.com , centra.com , and letsconference.com . For each of these, you call a telephone number to get the audio, then tune into a website to see the slides and other accompanying materials. Some services also offer a web audio option, so that no one needs to pay a long distance fee. Many of these vendors have also included enhancements such as live polls during the lesson, a "follow-me" type of Internet tour of sites, and the ability to carry on conversations during the class via a chat feature. Try to participate in at least one of each brand so that you are aware of the opportunities.

While live delivery has its place in web-based learning, it takes away one of the primary advantages assigned to online courses - the ability to learn anywhere, anytime. So if you want to provide that advantage, then you must assume an asynchronous mode of delivery. This type of delivery requires that you think through all of the course, design each lesson, then post the lessons for the students. Whereas with a "live" course you can assume that the instructor will prepare and deliver each lesson, an asynchronous course takes a lot more prior planning.

Even here there are numerous options. Here are some questions you need to answer as you are outlining the features of your course:
* Will you have an instructor for the course? (instructor-facilitated)
* Will all of the students start and end the course at the same time? (lock-stepped enrollment)
* Will the instructor "release" the learning materials at a particular time of the week or will students be able to progress at their own rate? (student-paced or instructor-paced)
* If you don't have an instructor for a course, how will you handle student questions?
* How will you measure student progress through a course? Do you need to?
* Will you certify course completion or are the students on their own as to whether or not they finish the course?
* How will the choice of instructor-facilitated impact your staffing requirements for the course?
* How will you train the staff to facilitate the course?
* Will you allow student-to-student interaction? If so, how will you facilitate that?

As you can see there are a lot of questions to be answered as you plan a course.

P.S. Did I mention that you can also deliver a course via email? For a good example of an email course send an email to elearning@TechTamers.com

Amazing Shoulder Pain Reversing Secrets!

Whether you're a weekend athlete, or a gardener that overdid it, or a person with arthritis, there's hope for you. According to Dr. Nathan Wei, Clinical Director of the Arthritis and Osteoporosis Center of Maryland, "Shoulder problems are one of the most common afflictions of modern times. Fortunately, there are many ways of helping people feel better."

The shoulder is the largest, most complex, and most mobile joint in the body
Four muscles and their tendons (ropes attached to the top of the humerus), collectively known as the rotator cuff allow the shoulder to move as it does. The rotator cuff also plays a role in stabilizing the arm bone to the shoulder blade.

Shoulder pain doesn't always come from the shoulder!
Examples include pain referred from arthritis of the neck, diseases of the chest such as pneumonia and diseases of the abdomen like gall bladder problems can cause pain to be referred to the shoulder. Even ectopic pregnancies have caused shoulder pain!!! Finally, heart conditions can cause referred pain to the shoulder, particularly on the left side. A specialist's physical exam is important. Dr. Wei relates this story. "I saw a patient who had shoulder pain. The pupil of the eye on the same side of the shoulder was enlarged. That set off alarm bells so I got a chest x-ray. He tuned out to have a lung cancer. This combination is called Horner's syndrome."

Most causes of true shoulder pain fall into 3 categories
? tendonitis/bursitis- With repetitive motion, the bursae (small fluid-filled sacs) surrounding the shoulder joint can become inflamed. This condition is called bursitis.
? injury/instability- Keeping your arms extended above your head; chronic compression , ie. forcing the shoulder into its socket; muscle imbalance- if one of the muscles is extra weak, that can cause the rotator cuff to function poorly.
? arthritis- Usually a function of aging.

Patient tips:
? Try to limit the number of overhead reaches.
? If you're wheelchair-bound, tuck your arms a bit closer to your body as you push.
? Avoid repetitive motion.
? Work on rotator cuff strengthening. Range-of-motion exercises are important!
? Use correct posture!

One tip that might help if you have chronic shoulder pain and have a "frozen shoulder" is to use a broomstick for stretching and range-of-motion exercises.
Oral anti-inflammatory medicines are sometimes, but not always, helpful. Patients may require a steroid injection. For people who don't respond to medicines, injections, and physical therapy, another option is surgery. Any type of surgery should be done by a skilled shoulder surgeon. "The shoulder is the most complex joint so make sure whoever works on your shoulder is an expert with shoulders," advises Dr. Wei.

Dr. Wei (pronounced "way") is a board-certified rheumatologist and Clinical Director of the nationally respected Arthritis and Osteoporosis Center of Maryland. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and has served as a consultant to the Arthritis Branch of the National Institutes of Health. He is a Fellow of the American College of Rheumatology and the American College of Physicians. Basic SMS Tips for Picking Up the Women of Your Dreams

I don't know if the craze of SMS has caught on around the world but many, many people use it here in New Zealand and everyone SMS's each other. I thought it was only right to share a few tips when replying to girls. These will seem stupid to some people who are experienced with this type of stuff, and to others they might find them helpful.

I meet a lot of girls at parties and they always give me their numbers and I won't ring them, I will message her just because its so simple. I usually message her a few times before calling her to ask her to join me somewhere. I can work on 10+ girls at once easily with SMS and these tips are just general rules while messaging her.

1. Never reply in under 5 minutes

This is one that a lot of males screw up on. By replying in under 5 minutes you show that you have nothing better to do than SMS her. If you leave it for 5 minutes plus it shows that you are busy and you don't have time to reply to her at that stage. Girls want someone who is fun to be around but males that are to busy for them drive her crazy as she is used to getting all the attention. By not replying so suddenly it shows that your attention is not at her, thus running questions through her mind.

2. Never end your SMS with 'Love Casanova'

Well of course, don't use your online nick name but thats not the point. You should never write anything to do with love at the end of your message. Think about it, girls meet guys all the time that they know they can control... by showing that you have already fallen for her... your screwed, she has control over you. Especially if its in the first few messages exchanged with her... or even if you have been messaging her for 3 weeks. Girls will take this two ways:

(a) Your a pushover, she has control over you and your a sucker

(b) You want to be her friend and you love her in a friendly way Duh, thats so fucking dumb..

3. Never reply to a message TWICE

A huge mistake guys make. So you have waited 30 minutes with no reply message from her, what now? And you text her again? Stop right there. Your ultimately showing that your just another AFC. Lift your game bro. Reply to her mesage, if she doesn't reply then dont SMS her again. Shes either:

(a) Playing games with you or,
(b) Not interested.

Most times it will be (a) so just leave it. Next please.

4. All of a sudden stop SMS'ing her

This should only be used once but I noticed girls did this a while back to me. I was an AFC (as you all know, like most) and girls would all of a sudden stop messaging me. So many thoughts ran through my mind ...does she not like me? Oh no shes busy, isn't she? She must be messaging some other guy?

So imagine what goes through her mind if you are sitting there talking about something while exchanging messages and then you stop messaging her. You are in control. Everytime you reply to another text message you are putting her in control, she can either reply or not reply. Thats why if you stop messaging her you are in control. I did this to a girl the other day and the first thing she said to me at a party was 'HOW COME YOU DIDNT REPLY TO MY MESSAGE?' ...remember everything is about putting you in control of a situation because ultimately girls like a male than can lead, an alpha male.

5. Don't message her everyday

When I am working on a girl I have met at a party and barely know her I will never message her every day. This shows you need to talk to her. You don't want this. Ultimately you want her to be the one who messages/SMS you but I would only ever SMS a girl once every 4-5 days (this is different to calling her).

Unless she is interested straight away in you you can't afford to put the control in her hands. By messaging her everyday you are showing that she is on your mind everyday ...and we know we don't want her thinking that.

Finding a Safe Dating Site

Seems like everywhere we surf on the Internet nowadays we run across this little advertisement: 'Free online personals'.
They are everywhere, they are dating sites, and more are opening up shop every day.

Welcome to the newest internet gold rush.
More and more people are signing up to these new and "free" dating sites.
What they are really getting is a place on the web where they can post their profile and let strangers contact them.
As more and more dating sites pile up on the web, more people are ending up with very distasteful experiences because of this.
Why? 99% of today's (and tomorrow's) dating sites do not screen their members at all. This means there are sex offenders, predators, scam artists
mixed in with genuine people who are looking to find a match.
Dating services need to be very discretionary and much safer, until that time comes here are some important things to consider
when thinking about joining a dating site.

1). Examine the site's physical properties. Is it poorly constructed with missing graphics or jagged fonts, mis-aligned sections? If so, this indicates a lack of attention to detail in the construction and layout of the site. It may have been pre purchased and the owner does not have the skill to alter it correctly. Why would you care? Well, a site in a state like this gives a clue that the back end program probably is also in a state of disarray or disregard. If the webmaster cannot construct the face of the site, then it is likely they cannot also construct important safety features behind the site. A hacker then could easily penetrate it and get your personal information including your photo. If you eventually pay this site, your credit information could be stolen as well! A nicely designed site means careful construction and a better chance of good quality code running the site in the background.

2). Look at some sample profiles on the site before you sign up by running a quick search. Do the profiles look a little bogus? A lot of them are. Many sites (especially new ones that have just started up) pad their membership database with photos of models or random (usually good-looking people) to attract new members. Do the profiles have a lot of jibberish characters or nonsensical phrases in the descriptions? That means the dating site you are at does NOT screen the people who sign up. This welcomes people with ill-intent. You should get out of there immediately and go to one that does.

3). Does the site have a privacy link? Look at the bottom of the site's main page. If they have a privacy link, click it and examine. Make sure they specifically state that they do NOT sell your information to anyone. This is an invitation to a spam and junk-mail nightmare. Also look for some sort of a web site rules page or a terms of use page. Check to see if they screen their profiles or somehow >disallow racial, hate or overly sexual material. If they don't state this than, anything goes for this site, another reason to leave.

4). Does the site have a links page? If so click and examine. See who they are affiliated with. Usually, there will be graphical banners or icons next to the names of their associations. Are they sex-sites? Spam sites? Even a quick glance in this area could tell you what kind of a dating site you are at.

5). What is the copyright date at the bottom? This could indicate the age of the site. If it is very young, this could help you determine if the site has worked out all the kinks (program bugs) and how many members they have accumulated.

6). Be wary of statements like "You are the 4697th member to join today." and "Search through millions of profiles." these statements are usually false. Major sites, which have been running for YEARS usually can support these statements. look for a "whos online" link. If you are the only person (1 guest online means JUST you are there) then you know these claims are false. A site with millions or even thousands of members will always have a bunch of people currently online. If you detect this in a dating site, it is better to leave than to take a chance with a dishonest site. This is just a short list of ideas to help keep you safe when dating online. Be leary, be safe. Rent Games Online

Renting video games online has exploded in recent months! I for one am thrilled to see this available to me and my family. Over the summer it was my sanity saver! Why you ask? Well simply because for an affordable price I can rent unlimited games online and have them sent to my door. I don't have to go wait in long lines or stop when I am tired after work. Having them sent to my door is easy and hassle free, just what I need!

Renting games online is not only good for my kids but my Husband enjoys playing as well and sometimes we rent games we can play as a family too. Don't get me wrong, I don't like my children sitting in front of the television for long hours. But, renting a game and having it easily accessible when needed is most helpful. There are many days that the kids were cooped up inside due to bad weather and the games we rented online came in handy.

Out of the rent games online available, we found Gamefly to be the best program available with the most extensive game collection and affordable prices. Going to the movies with 5 people is simply out of the budget right now, we can rent games for the entire month instead of one 2 hour trip to the movies. It's a win-win situation for all of us. I definitely suggest you try it out, you won't be sorry.
